Mary Hunt Obituary

Mary Byrd King Hunt received her wings on December 3, 2018 at her home in Longview, Texas with family and patient attendants near her side. Mary was born October 18, 1923 to Ernest and Ruth Ella King. She was a sister to six brothers, Charlie, W.D. Sr., James, Curtis, L.C. and Oree.

She spent her early childhood in Woodlawn, Texas. She attended public schools in Karnack, Texas and afterward, began her first job at the age of thirteen. On April 16, 1948, Mary married Hosea Hunt Jr. and began her career as a domestic homemaker. To this union seven children were born: Ruby, Daisy, Lyndell, Gloria, Linda, Wanda, and Shelia.

She attended church regularly at Bible Teaching Ministries Church and was an active member of the 59 and Holding Women's group until her health began to slow her down from her daily duties and activities.

Mrs. Hunt was known to many as “Memaw”, “Granny”, “Grandma Mary”, “Mother Hunt”, “Nadene” and “Maybird”, but most of all, she was known for her home-cooked meals, desserts, hospitality, willingness to give to whomever she came in contact with, and her love for them all. Mrs. Hunt has had the privilege of cooking for groups such as the late Willie Neal Johnson and the Gospel Keynotes; The Original Mighty Clouds of Joy; The Smith Brothers; and a host of people in the community.
